She needs a better steering column, driver side hood hinge, gas tank, new tires.
Lots of body work (rust), paint, work, time & finishing!

I bought her in San Diego (she's a California Car but she's NOT rust free)
She came with a 350 engine & standard transmission
I drove her for about a year and then the 350 engine quit.

Instead of rebuilding the 350 engine
I used the engine & automatic transmission out my Cadillac (that my wife just had wrecked).

It ran great, but the old drum brakes had trouble getting it to stop
and the rear end gear racial was too high!
0-40 mph in a flash but then no faster then 50 mph or the engine would have died...

So I got the entire cross member out of a 1975 Chevrolet 1 Ton Pick Up Truck.
It bolted right into the GMC frame except for 2 holes, which I had to drill new.

I got the gear box, power booster, master brake cylinder, brake lines, brake pedal,
linkage & steel backing plate out of the same truck and installed it all into the GMC.

I used new brake hoses, but the old brake lines out of the Chevy Truck.
They work, but should be replaced & arranged better & nicer!

To mount the gear box I needed to use an adapter (red in the picture).
The power steering pump is from the Cadillac, hoses are the same like in a Chevy Truck

The disc brakes stop awesome, the steering handles perfect with all new
ball joints, tie rods, upper, lower control arm bushings & wheel alignment.

After a lot of research I found a rear end with the right gear racial.
It's out of a 1990 Ford 1 Ton Dually Pick Up Truck.
What's really nice about this one is that you can take the brake drum of without having to mess with the bearings!
Ford came up with a new unique design that let's you do that.

She doesn't go as fast from 0-40 like before, but good enough to beat most Rice Boxes!
But now at 70 mph on the freeway, and the engine idles smooth
and even a little slower then it used to in the Cadillac.
The speed limit in Arizona is 75 mph, but she wants more!

Doing the timing chain on a Caddy engine while it's in the car is a pain...
So I installed a new timing chain & water pump as I had the engine out.
The old ones were still good, but better safe then sorry.
There are three bolts from the water pump that bolt into the timing chain cover
that are a problem, since they are over tightend way too easy.
I welded nuts behind the cover so this won't happen!
One is visible in the photo (above right), the other 2 are inside the engine now.
The engine did not come with the HEI ignition, I put it in, better mpg & more power!

The motor mounts & brackets are out of a 1976 Cadillac SeVille.
They are new & bolt into an adapter plate that's welded to the cross member.

In order to fit the engine it needed an Eldorado oil pan & the dip stick had to be moved.

The transmission cross member is made using part of the original Cadillac cross member
welded on top of very thick square tubing.

Since there is not yet a nice steering column, the "shifter" is a rod trough the floor...
All the way up is park, all the way down is drive, neutral one click up & reverse another click up!

Not the greatest, but it did work...

I drove her every day the whole winter, but then in the summer
the small GMC radiator wasn't good enough.

So I had to put the big Cadillac Radiator in her & thought I get rid of the rust.
When I had her all taken apart, the stupid home association complained & made me move her.

So now she sits at a friends place in Wickenburg, 90 minutes away from where I live.
I was going to work every night a few hours on her,
how should I do this if getting there & back already takes 3 hours?

The body is rough & rusty. But nothing that can't be fixed!
Look at the photos they tell more than words can.

Interessted? Questions? Call 480 688 3772

Make a reasonable offer & I'll let her go!
Think about how much a good Caddy engine & transmission is worth,
how much you would have to spend on a rear axle & all those parts.

I might consider trading for a diesel truck or suburban or?

Almost forgot... I got doors of a 60-64 Chevy sitting around.
They will not fit on this 66 GMC since there for a warped around windshield.
But if you have use for them, I sell them separately.
